    and Symbolism

Sensory spinning chairs and other tactile items provide opportunities for sensory engagement, helping children connect with their feelings in a hands-on way.

Sensory Exploration:

Our Midwest location is reflected in the inclusion of toy farming equipment, along with other service vehicles, a variety of toy items like handcuffs and aggressive animals, enabling children to process their experiences and feelings about safety and control.

Symbolic Play of Danger:

This area includes a kitchenette, musical instruments, and a dress-up area with a mirror. These elements encourage imaginative play and self-exploration, allowing kids to visualize different roles and identities.

Toys related to personal care help children express concerns about routines and self-image, fostering discussions about hygiene and well-being.

Hygiene Area:

Dolls, doctor supplies, and nurturing toys promote care and safety, helping children process themes of comfort and support.

Nurturing & Safety:

Featuring army figures, toy guns, handcuffs, and aggressive animals, this area allows children to explore feelings of frustration and anger in a controlled manner.

Aggressive play:

This protective space offers a warm and cozy retreat for processing emotions.

The Beacon of Hope Play Therapy room is designed with no directive materials, allowing for purely child-centered play. When our therapists introduce this space, they encourage children by saying, "This is a place where you can be anyone you want to be, do anything you want to do, and become anything you want to become."

In this nurturing environment, children can tap into their inner selves, expressing their worries and concerns through play rather than words. Within this containment, real therapeutic interventions occur, aligning with the best practices in Play Therapy.

At Beacon of Hope, we are committed to representing Play Therapy authentically, ensuring that children have the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.
